Composers need performers, and performers need composers; we believe the future of music depends on the vital collaboration between composers and performers to create music that people care about. The process of working with composers as they compose ensures that the final piece will be free from the various common “mistakes” that often surface in new music that has been written in solitude. There are many aspects of music that are not in textbooks, and so we learn by doing, watching, and listening. Percussion is probably the most complex and daunting instrumental family to commit to writing for, since there is really no end to numbers of instruments in the family. In our experience, we have personally seen how important it is to listen to composers and sincerely keep an open mind to realize new possibilities that we could not have imagined. This is the rich possibility that we are excited to be a part of and to encourage in the future.
