High School of the Arts Moves Downtown
Downtown Riverside is the new host of Encore High School, a free public high school dedicated to pre college education and exploration of the world of arts. Located in the heart of downtown, the new campus will offer all-inclusive arts training in Vocal Music, Dance, Visual and Technical Art, Theater, and Cirque Arts as seen on stage in the performance of “Cirque de Soleil.”
Students throughout the Inland Empire and of all levels of expertise are encouraged to apply.
“As soon as we announced our opening in Riverside we were overwhelmed by the response from parents in support of our efforts to bring an arts school to downtown,” said Steve Dekany, Executive Officer of Enrollment.
Encore’s first campus is located in Hesperia, which opened in 2008. The school has a proven track record of success with over 1,000 students being educated each year. Encore has also helped their graduates earn over a million and a half dollars in scholarships. Students who attend the high school still have traditional studies, but instead of the usual curricular activities that are offered, they will are able to pursue their passion.
“The city has been unbelievably supportive and gracious, and we are extremely thrilled and excited to be here,” said Dekany.
The doors will open on August 27th with an approximate enrollment of over 400 students. The school has already begun accepting applications for grades 7-10, and encourages those who are interested in the school to attend a mandatory interest meeting which is held on site in the arts building at 5PM on Tuesdays.
