February 2014 Business Spotlight: Ddogs

Owners Darryl Hurt and Laurie Brower began Ddogs with a vision of creating a sports restaurant in downtown Riverside with specialty hotdogs, hamburgers, and craft beer. After visiting similar concepts out back east and in Los Angeles, Darryl and Laurie began looking for the perfect spot in downtown Riverside to house their vision. The search for the right building in downtown Riverside lasted about 2 years until they decided on a building rich with history and over 100 years old. Construction began in 2011 with the building being gutted, and they were open for business in July, 2013.

Darryl and Laurie are long-time residents of Riverside. They insisted on staying in the area to contribute to the local economy by creating job opportunities. “We thought downtown Riverside was due for a transformation to a destination like so many downtowns across the U.S,” says Darryl. Darryl was a police officer for over 30 years but felt he was too young to retire so he decided to take on the challenge of opening a restaurant. Laurie, who owns an independent escrow company in Riverside, was also excited about opening a new business that would also challenge her and provide jobs.

The phrase, “just a hotdog” does not come to mind when experiencing the wild creations at Ddogs. Darryl and Laurie exceed expectations by adding quality ingredients to their menu.  Upon entering, customers experience a modernized 6,000 sqft restaurant with a industrial look. Ddogs is furnished with 13 TV’s, and a circular bar that features a custom draft system with 41 types of beer. The menu provides 1000s of hamburger and hotdog combinations. Ddogs also offers a number of salads, appetizers, deserts, and kid’s meals.

“Some of best sellers are our 951, IE, and 911 dogs created and named for our region to give recognition for our Inland Empire. Our rotating craft and microbrew beers also reflect southern California style and tastes as most of our beers are from local or regional brewers,” says Darryl.  Recently, Dodgs partnered with UCR athletics to support their teams.  Ddosg also supports other local and national charity organizations.
