SYNOPSIS:  Bye Bye Birdie is an affectionate satire of the Elvis Presley phenomenon.  When the side-burned, hip-shaking Presley roared out of Tennessee to turn the music world upside down, it was the start of an exciting era.  Kids were enchanted.  Parents were outraged.  Elvis’ first national appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show was a major event.  Presley’s tremendous impact was a classic example of generation-gap confrontation.  “Kids!  I don’t know what’s wrong with these kids today!  Kids!  Who can understand anything they say? Why can’t they be like we were, perfect in every way?  What’s the matter with kids today?
