Riverside’s unique adult only dance studio, Room to Dance, integrates passion and rhythm for those who seek a little spice in their lives. Owner April MacLean identified a need in Riverside for adult only classes similar to ones in major U.S. cities. She states “Bringing a big city style dance studio to Riverside gives people more options.” Room to Dance offers a wide variety of classes which include Zumba, Hip Hop, Ballet, Jazz, Belly Dance, Ballroom, Tap, and Swing.
For those who see dance as scary or too challenging, April MacLean encourages people to “re-connect” with themselves and give it a try. Being a part of a dance studio gives allows a person to grow in a family who share the same passion in a professional setting. This concept expanded in October, 2012 when April MacLean finalized her partnership with Julie Simon and opened World to Dance which is located inside City Gym, a part of the Life Arts Building. Julie Simon brought a extra flare to Riverside with her African inspired Afro-Samba, West African, and Barre Blaze dance classes that are taught at the World to Dance Studio.
Julie Simon states, “there is no reason not to have a thriving downtown,” which is why Room to Dance and World to Dance Studios offers all extremes of dance classes under one roof. Their ultimate goal is to change the attitude about dance. “A night club is not the only place where people can come together and dance,” says Simon.
