Back to the Grind
Since opening in 1996, Back to the Grind has become a gem to the Riverside community. Located at 3575 University Ave in the heart of the downtown area, it offers regular and specialty coffee and tea, as well as gourmet deserts, soups, salads, sandwiches, smoothies, a fresh squeezed juice bar and gelato. The 5,000 sq ft building is split into two floors with the coffee shop and loft upstairs and a stage, pool table, and an area for events downstairs.
Darren Conkerite is the owner of Back to the Grind and currently has six employees. He chose the location based on his desire to create a “headquarters of information and creativity in downtown Riverside.” He originally “envisioned a hub for local artists, poets, and musicians” to socialize and showcase their talents. While it began as a small café style shop, in later years Conkerite added ovens and cook wear because of the demand he received from his customers.
Darren Conkerite encourages more businesses to have a plan for interacting with their community and states time and effort means a lot. He shares his passion by providing space for community and creative use. What can you expect from a first time visit to Back to the Grind? Darren Conkerite promises a warm greeting and an experience where everyone can leave their labels at the door and meet new friends.
