RDP to host first ever Riverside Zombie Crawl Event to kickoff Halloween in Downtown Riverside

RIVERSIDE, CALIF. — October 7, 2011 — Ghouls and gals get ready for the first ever “Riverside Zombie Crawl” in downtown Riverside, free and open to the public.

Downtown Riverside will be the hub of Halloween activities with lots of scary and fun events both young and old can enjoy. Riverside Zombie Crawl is hosted by Riverside Downtown Partnership (RDP) and takes place on Saturday, October 22 from 2-7:30 p.m. on Main Street in the Civic Plaza block between University and Mission Inn avenues. Makeup artists will be on hand between 2 and 3 p.m. to assist zombies with their ghoulish face painting looks. In addition, a special skeleton dance performance takes place at 3:15 p.m. from local choreographers Carrie Mikuls and Selvana Elwardany. The duo combines high energy Hip Hop with scary Halloween creatures.

Zombies and zombie victims get your scariest costume and get ready to compete in the Zombie Costume Contest. Registration will start at 2 p.m. through 4 p.m. with three different categories: Ages 2-7, 8-14 and 15 and up. The contest will get underway at 4:30 p.m. First and second place prizes will be awarded in each category.

Zombies will groove to the sounds of DJ Snipez who will be spinning from 2-6 p.m.

Riverside’s first ever Zombie Crawl will conclude with the showing of a classic zombie movie, “Night of the Comet,” shown at 6:15 p.m. displayed on an inflatable screen outdoors. This movie is PG-13 so families are encouraged to bring their kids and enjoy this fun-filled afternoon of festivities.

After the movie, check out Riverside Arts Council’s Haunted House “Human Roast House” open from 7-11 p.m. Zombies can keep the party going by visiting some of our local bars for some zombie drink specials (at participating establishments).
